The tragic story of Tristian und Isolde has become one of the most important operas of the 19th century. Wagner melds dissonance and unusual tonality to tell the twisted love-triangle tale of the nobleman Tristan, Irish princess Isolde and King Marke of Cornwall to whom Isolde is betrothed. This particular variation by the Dutch percussionist, composer and arranger Henk de Vlieger links a number of the most important orchestral sections from Wagner’s five-hour operatic masterpiece.
