On Saturday, October 13 at 7:35 PM EDT, the New World Symphony, America’s
Orchestral Academy, will webcast selections from its Opening Night performance
live from the Lincoln Theatre on Miami Beach. Featuring artistic
director Michael Tilson Thomas and violinist Gil Shaham, this free, audio-visual
webcast is part of the New World Symphony’s ongoing efforts to make
its presentations accessible to a wide array of listeners around the world.
The webcast captures a momentous occasion for the New World Symphony:
the official launch of its 20th Anniversary Season. With Gil
Shaham joining the orchestra for Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto, Opening
Night at the Symphony features the passion, virtuosity and fun that have
trademarked New World Symphony performances for two decades. Providing
webcasts free-of-charge to the public is just one of the ways in which
the New World Symphony makes its music available worldwide. Over the
past 20 years, Michael Tilson Thomas and NWS have had a broad international
impact through national and international tours, eight recordings, and,
of course, the proliferation of its fellows in today’s
finest orchestras and ensembles.
Since its inception, NWS has prepared over 700 young musicians for successful
careers in music throughout the world. As performers, teachers and
musical ambassadors to the community at large, New World Symphony Fellows
use the experiential training they receive in South Florida to ensure that
classical music has a meaningful role in each community they call home.
Wherever you are, we are delighted to share Opening Night at the Symphony
with you, a special celebration 20 years in the making.
