The New World Symphony consists of 84 Instrumental Fellows, and a Conducting, Audio Engineer, and Library Fellow. Each year we audition for every instrument in the orchestra, with the exceptions of timpani and percussion. Please refer to the Application Requirements page for more information about how to apply.
Timpani and percussion auditions are scheduled separately, only when there are openings, and are held at the New World Center in Miami Beach.
The New World Symphony offers a one-year conducting fellowship to highly qualified conductors who have finished at least a bachelor’s degree and are not currently enrolled in a degree program. The conducting fellow works with Michael Tilson Thomas and many visiting guest conductors and leads the NWS in several of the season’s concerts and reading sessions. The deadline for applications for fellowships beginning in September 2021 is November 30, 2020. You may apply online at https://app.getacceptd.com/nws. The application will consist of:
- Three essay questions and a current resume.
- A video showing you conducting music in rehearsal and/or performance preferably from a variety of musical periods and, if possible, a variety of ensemble sizes.
- Three letters of recommendation.
- A non-refundable application fee of $100.00.
Currently, New World Symphony has no openings for timpani, audio or library fellowships. The percussion auditions previously scheduled in May are postponed to a later date. Please check back soon.
Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to be notified the next time there is an opening for one of these fellowships.
