Community Engagement
NWS Connect (Grades 7-12, Student Musicians)
A Classical Music Hangout
NWS Connect is an online initiative that enables purposeful discussions and interactions between aspiring young instrumentalists alongside mentorship from the New World Symphony, America’s Orchestral Academy. NWS Connect is comprised of a social media network where students can find information about and participate in online events such as Virtual Hangouts—opportunities to converse in real-time with NWS Fellows through Facebook Live, webcasts and in-person events at the New World Center. Fellows also conduct online residencies with student music ensembles around the United States via Skype and Internet2.
The purpose of this program is to allow middle school and high school students from around the country to benefit from the free online programming and social media network. NWS Connect is particularly focused on those who would like to study classical music at the university level. We believe that community engagement activities hosted online can increase access and lower barriers to participation in classical music.

NWS Hangouts and Events
Chat online in real time with the Fellows of the New World Symphony through our Virtual Hangouts. During the hangouts, Fellows discuss relevant classical music topics, answer audience questions and feature visiting guests and NWS alumni. NWS Hangouts are hosted through MUSAIC and Facebook and are open to any middle and high-school musicians.
Want to participate? Here’s what you need:
- A Facebook account. The Hangouts will be hosted on the NWS Connect Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/groups/292587074274196/
