NWS Archive+. MTT with fellows.

NWS Archive+ is NWS’s new web-based series. Michael Tilson Thomas will moderate discussions with NWS Fellows, alumni, guest artists and visiting faculty about recorded performances from our archives. Their personal reflections will offer unique insights into the streamed concerts.

MTT discusses Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio espagnol, George Gershwin’s Cuban Overture and Sergei Prokofiev’s Suite from Romeo and Juliet with NWS alumni Rachel Sandman (First Violin, Kansas City Symphony), Kelton Koch (Second Trombone, Vienna Philharmonic) and Jacob Nissly (Principal Percussion, San Francisco Symphony). Episode 7: Britten and Sibelius

 

MTT discusses Benjamin Britten’s The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra and Jean Sibelius’ Third Symphony with members of the New York Philharmonic: NWS visiting faculty Cynthia Phelps (Principal Viola) and Anthony McGill (Principal Clarinet), and NWS alumnus Ryan Roberts (English horn). MTT discusses Antonín Dvořák’s Eighth Symphony with NWS visiting faculty member Joseph Conyers (Assistant Principal Bass, The Philadelphia Orchestra); NWS alumnus Francisco Joubert Bernard (Second Bassoon, Louisville Orchestra) and NWS Fellow Johanna Gruskin (flute). Episode 5: Harold in Italy

 

MTT discusses Steven Mackey’s reimagining of Hector Berlioz’ Harold in Italy with Mr. Mackey, violist Tabea Zimmermann, NWS alumnus and faculty Anthony Parce and NWS Oboe Fellow Joo Bin Yi. Episode 4: Music by John Cage

 

MTT shares reflections on the music of John Cage with pianist Marc-André Hamelin and NWS alumni Evan Epifanio (bassoon), Grace Browning (harp), Grace An (cello), Alex Wadner (timpani) and Rajesh Prasad (percussion).
