In this recital first-year Oboe Fellow Victoria Chung shares a multimedia recital that portrays the life of a musician before and during Covid-19 through a broad sound world of oboe pieces, as well as colorful visual narrative. It aims to connect and relate to the emotional journey of 2020 and to spread joy and hope for the new year.

First-year Oboe Fellow Victoria Chung served as Co-Principal of the Pacific Music Festival in 2017, performing at Kitara Hall (Sapporo), Muza Kawasaki Symphony Hall (Kanagawa) and Tokyo Bunka Kaikan (Tokyo) under the baton of Valery Gergiev. She completed her bachelor and master of music degrees at The Juilliard School, studying with Nathan Hughes.
Ms. Chung contributed her enthusiasm to the many ensembles at Juilliard, playing all positions in the Juilliard Orchestra, Lab Orchestra and contemporary ensemble AXIOM. As a contemporary music advocate, she has performed and worked with many composers including Thomas Adès, Jennifer Higdon, Matthias Pintscher and Kaija Saariaho. Ms. Chung has also performed with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic, Richmond Symphony and Sejong Soloists.
Ms. Chung’s passion for orchestral and chamber music extends to summer festivals, including the Music Academy of the West, Spoleto Festival U.S.A., Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, Pacific Music Festival, Sarasota Chamber Music Festival, National Repertory Orchestra and more. In 2008 Ms. Chung made her solo debut with her performance of Hummel’s Theme and Variation with the Hankook Symphony (Seoul, South Korea) under the baton of Byung-wook Lee. Since then she won several awards including Livingston (NJ) Young Artist Concerto Competition with Mozart’s Oboe Concerto (2016), Youngsan Music Concours (2009) and Seoul Philharmonic Orchestra National Concours Award (2007).
Ms. Chung has built relationships with public schools and local businesses around New Jersey/ New York, engaging with communities as a Back to Bach soloist and Artistic Director of D Ensemble.
