Symphony in Place: Nick Platoff and The Beatles
Symphony in Place is a blog series that chronicles the happenings of NWS Fellows, Alumni, Trustees, Volunteers and Staff during the COVID-19 crisis. Click here to access all posts in the series.
NWS alumnus Nick Platoff (2014-16)—now Associate Principal Trombone in the San Francisco Symphony—has stayed busy during the pandemic with several passion projects that include songwriting and music videos. Check out his latest project with members of the San Francisco Symphony that is dedicated to frontline workers.
Nick spent much of the summer in Connecticut with his family, including his musicologist father John. In a Riff Magazine interview, Nick said ““My dad; he’s a lover of music, period. His work is mostly in classical music, but he’s also published tons of scholarly work on the Beatles. The Beatles were—as much as Mozart and other classical music—the soundtrack of my childhood.”
They are sharing their home’s Beatle mania by hosting “Nick and John’s Excellent Beatles Adventure!” on Facebook. For what Nick calls “Double Platoff - Double Trouble Musicology Livechats,” John prepares an accompanying Spotify playlist for each episode. Tune in below to watch the first two installments and follow Nick for updates.
