Bryan Ping

Chinese American cellist Bryan Ping is a first-year Fellow at the New World Symphony.

He has performed in renowned music halls such as the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Severance Music Center, Boston’s Symphony Hall and The National Concert Hall in Taipei. His musical highlights include performing alongside distinguished musicians such as Emily Beynon of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Philip Setzer of the Emerson Quartet and soloist Yo-Yo Ma.

Prior to New World Symphony, Bryan was appointed section cellist of the Canton Symphony Orchestra for the 2025–26 season. His summer festivals experience includes the Taipei Music Academy & Festival, Smithsonian String Quartet Seminar, National Orchestra Institute & Festival and Kent Blossom Music Festival, performing both chamber and orchestral works.

Bryan received his undergraduate degree from Boston University under the tutelage of Michael Reynolds of the Muir String Quartet and Mihail Jojatu of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. He completed his master’s degree at the Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM) under Richard Weiss of the Cleveland Orchestra. In 2023 Bryan was awarded the Y. Chen Silver Prize Medal for the Cleveland Cello Society Competition and Second Prize for CIM’s 30th Darius Milhaud Competition. Bryan has also studied with Mark Kosower of The Cleveland Orchestra, Chamber Musician Si-Yan Li and John Walz of Los Angeles Opera

As a third-generation cellist, Bryan takes pride in his family legacy in music pedagogy, beginning his studies with his grandfather Yan Zheng Ping and mother Bing Yan. Whether at home or abroad, Bryan assists his family in teaching students in the San Diego school district with a focus of building foundational techniques and orchestral excerpts. Outside of music, Bryan enjoys exploring the outdoors, photography and fashion planning.
