Emmanuel Tolu Losa

Emmanuel Tolu Losa is a first-year Cello Fellow at the New World Symphony. He spent his summers at various festivals, including the Spoleto Festival, Aspen Music Festival, National Orchestral Institute, Sitka Cello Seminar and Bowdoin International Music Festival. Ensembles appearances include the Nashville Symphony, Virginia Symphony, Spoleto Festival Orchestra and the Gateways Chamber Players. He was also an inaugural fellow with the Virgina Symphony Orchestra.

Tolu holds a master’s degree from the Eastman School of Music and a bachelor's degree from the Peabody Institute. Originally from Atlanta, he began playing at the age of 12, self-taught until he began studying privately at 18. His principal teachers include Alan Rafferty, Steven Doane, Rosemary Elliot, Alan Stepansky and Joel Dallow. Additionally, he has received instruction from various cellists in the field including Steven Isserlis, Alisa Weilerstein, Zuill Bailey, Lachezar Kostav, Ahrim Kim, Joseph Johnson, Eric Kim and Astrid Schween, among many others.

On his off-days, Tolu enjoys running, reading, gaming and spending time with friends and family. He currently plays on a 2015 Mario Miralles cello on generous loan from the Maestro Foundation.
