Matthew Udry

Matthew Udry is a second-year Cello Fellow from Kenosha, Wisconsin. He has performed with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra under the batons of Leonard Slatkin, Otto Tausk and Han-Na Chang, and has also appeared with the Vancouver Opera and Pacific Baroque Orchestra. Most recently, he has been a participant of the Lucerne Festival Academy and a founding member of the Knapweed Performing Arts Festival in Plains, Montana.

Outside of cello, Matthew has a particular interest in electronic music, sound art and audio technology. Through his BLUE Project, New World ((SoundStage)), he creates immersive electronic sound installations in conversation with NWS performances. He has also programmed digital audio effects, designed music-making algorithms and created control systems for performers and live electronics. Prior to joining NWS, Matthew worked as an acoustic consultant, advising on the design of music studios, museums, airports and other architecture projects.

Matthew holds a bachelor of arts degree in computing and the arts from Yale University and an artist diploma from the Vancouver Academy of Music. His principal teachers include Henry Shapard, Ole Akahoshi and Scott Cook.
