Max Healy

Max Healy is a second-year Cello Fellow at the New World Symphony. This summer he completed a fellowship at the Tanglewood Music Center, where he performed under the batons of Andris Nelsons, Esa-Pekka Salonen and Marin Alsop. He also shared the stage with members of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Yo-Yo Ma in a sold-out cello ensemble concert.

Past orchestral experiences include summers with the National Repertory Orchestra, Round Top Festival Institute and National Orchestral Institute. He was previously a member of the Lansing Symphony Orchestra in the 2024-25 season and toured South Africa last summer with the University of Michigan University Symphony Orchestra.

Dedicated to new music, Max performed extensively with the Contemporary Directions Ensemble at the University of Michigan. While at the National Orchestral Institute, he was selected for the “New Directions” new music ensemble. He has given solo performances of new music as a member of the TCU New Music Ensemble and as a featured performer at the National Association of Composers USA conference in 2021.

An enthusiastic chamber musician, Max has participated in numerous chamber music intensives including LyricaFest, Cactus Pear Music Festival Young Artist Program, Camerata San Antonio String Quartet Seminar and was selected for the Best of Chamber Music showcase concert at the Round Top Music Festival. In the Texas Chamber Music Institute’s inaugural year, he was a member of the ensemble-in-residence. His many chamber music coaches include members of the Telegraph and Miró quartets as well as Emanuel Ax.

Max received his master of music degree from the University of Michigan and his bachelor of music degree from Texas Christian University, where he was a Chancellor’s Scholar. He has had the great privilege to study with Richard Aaron, Dr. Juliette Herlin, Dr. Jesús Castro-Balbi, Ignacio Gallego and Cora Harnish.
