Abner Wong

First-Year Fellow

Abner Wong is a first-year Trumpet Fellow at the New World Symphony. He has been a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago since 2023 and performed with distinguished ensembles, including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Singapore Symphony Orchestra. These experiences played an integral role in shaping his artistry and developing his orchestral musicianship at the highest level.

Abner began his musical studies at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music in his native Singapore, where he earned a bachelor of music degree under the guidance of Jon Dante. He continued his education at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, earning a master of music degree with NWS alum Adam Luftman and a professional studies certificate with NWS alum Mark Inouye. During this time, he was a member of ensembles that advanced to the finals of the National Trumpet Competition in both 2022 and 2023.

Abner subsequently continued his studies at the DePaul University School of Music, working with Esteban Batallán and Stephen Burns while serving as a regular member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. In addition, Abner has spent his summers performing with the Asian Youth Orchestra, where he has worked with distinguished faculty members and toured extensively throughout Asia.

Through his diverse musical experiences and collaborations, Abner has developed a versatile artistic voice grounded in precision, sensitivity and expressive musicianship. He remains committed to continually refining his craft through orchestral, chamber, and solo performance.
