Daniel Simmons

New York City native Daniel Simmons is a Viola Fellow at the New World Symphony. He has performed with the New York Philharmonic, Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and The Knights as a substitute violist. He also served as Principal Violist of the Verbier Festival Orchestra, Juilliard Orchestra and Columbia University Orchestra. He has participated twice in the New York String Orchestra Seminar and regularly appears in National Youth Orchestra of the USA All-Star concerts.

Daniel has performed across North America, Europe and Asia, in venues including Carnegie Hall, David Geffen Hall, Seiji Ozawa Hall and the Château de Fontainebleau. He has played under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle, Yannick Nézet-Séguin and Gustavo Dudamel, and has received master classes from Kim Kashkashian, Cynthia Phelps and Roberto Díaz.

An active chamber musician, Daniel has collaborated with artists including Donald Weilerstein, David Chan, Samuel Rhodes and Hsin-Yun Huang, as well as members of the Pacifica, New Orford and Ying string quartets. Most recently, he participated in the Perlman Music Program Chamber Music Workshop. Other festival appearances include Festival Mozaic, Toronto Summer Music, Heifetz International Music Institute and Curtis Institute of Music Summerfest. In 2023 Daniel attended the Conservatoire Américain in France, where he won Third Prize in the Prix Ravel. In 2024 he won the Colorado College Summer Music Festival Concerto Competition. In 2026 he was a finalist in the Adelphi Competition.

Daniel earned his master of music degree at The Juilliard School under the tutelage of Steven Tenenbom and Paul Neubauer. He completed a bachelor’s degree in economics at Columbia University while enrolled in the Columbia-Juilliard Program. He also studied in the Juilliard Pre-College with Molly Carr and Yi-Fang Huang.
