Abigail Macy

Abigail Macy is a first-year Violin Fellow at the New World Symphony. She joins NWS after an inspiring summer at the Tanglewood Music Center. In addition to tenured positions in the Erie Philharmonic and Canton Symphony, Abigail has performed with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and Westmoreland Symphony.

Throughout her career, Abigail has had the honor of working with eminent musicians such as Lang Lang, Andrea Bocelli, Midori and the Emerson String Quartet. After her international solo debut at age 13 with the Harare Chamber Orchestra in Zimbabwe, she has performed throughout Latin America, Southern Africa, Europe and Eastern Asia as a soloist and chamber musician. Inspired by the music of her childhood, Abigail performs classical music side by side with the rhythms of Africa and Latin America, including music by the Zimbabwean legend Oliver Mtukudzi, with whom she has had the honor of performing. 

Winner of the National Youth Orchestra of Canada’s Award of Excellence, Abigail is dedicated to bringing the joy of music to future generations, finding deep fulfillment working with her private studio and giving master classes around the globe. She earned her master’s degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music studying with Malcolm Lowe, a bachelor of fine arts degree from Carnegie Mellon University and an artist diploma from the Glenn Gould School.

Born in Pittsburgh to a cellist and a diplomat, Abigail loves to combine the passion of both her parents in building bridges through music. When she’s not practicing or traveling, you'll find her in the kitchen with friends or reading in the garden.
