Archer Brown

Originally from Minnesota, Archer Brown is a third-year Violin Fellow at the New World Symphony. He recently graduated from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (SFCM), where he studied with renowned pedagogue Simon James. While in the Bay Area, he performed with ensembles such as the Berkeley Symphony and San Francisco Ballet Orchestra, as well as serving as concertmaster of the SFCM Conservatory Orchestra. He has spent summers at the Aspen and Verbier festivals, as well as the Tanglewood Music Center in 2023 and 2024. He has performed concertos with orchestras on several occasions, as well as making frequent appearances as a chamber musician and recitalist.  

While still living in Minnesota, Archer studied with Ray Shows of the Artaria String Quartet. Because of this, he has a particular affinity for chamber music, and has directed and programmed concert series of his own. While at SFCM, he studied viola with Dimitri Murrath, and enjoys performing as violist whenever the opportunity strikes. He also studied conducting with Jacques Desjardins and Edwin Outwater, and hopes for more opportunities to conduct in the future.  

A multi-faceted artist and musician, Archer finds his creative inspiration in all places, whether it be on a long hike in the Adirondacks, or in a poem by W.H. Auden. He enjoys reading, cooking and enjoying new foods, and tackling The New York Times crossword. In his youth, he was a competitive figure skater, and he greatly enjoys any time he can spend on the ice nowadays.
