Javier Torres

Javier Fernando Torres Delgado, a violinist from San Juan, Puerto Rico, is a first-year Fellow at the New World Symphony. He holds a master’s degree from the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre & Dance (SMTD), where he studied under the tutelage of Professor Danielle Belen. Prior to NWS, he performed with the Puerto Rico Symphony as a tenured member. He was also a String Fellow with the Grant Park Symphony Orchestra in 2025 and Chicago’s Music of the Baroque Orchestra in 2026. 

According to a review of a concert from the Chicago Classical, “The Grant Park Orchestra strings were nimble and attentive to Guerrero throughout the evening…The young Festival String Fellows joined them in the latter as the featured string quartet…violin fellow Javier Torres-Delgado showed particularly enchanting solo turns in hushed moments.” 

Javier has been recognized in several competitions, including the MIMA Young Artist Competition (2025), MASTA Young Artist Competition (2023) and Lima Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition (2022).  

Javier has participated in various summer music programs such as the National Youth Orchestra of the Americas (NYO-USA), Center Stage Strings Festival, Encore Chamber Music Festival and the Sphinx Performance Academy.  

His artistic career has led him to perform on prestigious international stages such as Carnegie Hall (Stern Auditorium/Perelman Stage), Taipei National Concert Hall, Shanghai Symphony Hall, National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, LOTTE Concert Hall in Seoul and Daejeon Arts Center. Javier aspires to foster the development of violin in Puerto Rico and to represent his island on the international stage. 

In his spare time, Javier enjoys dancing, listening to music and going to the beach.
