William Kinney

William Kinney is a first-year Violin Fellow at the New World Symphony. He has performed as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral violinist in eight different countries. As an orchestral musician, he has served as assistant concertmaster of the Verbier Festival Orchestra, assistant concertmaster of the Boston Chamber Symphony, concertmaster of the New England Conservatory Symphony and has performed with the Music Academy of the West’s Academy Festival Orchestra and the American Youth Symphony.

William is passionate about chamber music and has performed at various festivals including the Verbier Festival, Music Academy of the West, Bowdoin International Music Festival, Colluvio Chamber Music Academy and Harpa International Music Academy. He has received coaching from Kim Kashkashian, Nicholas Cords, Melissa Reardon, Pei-Shan Lee, Sibbi Bernhardsson, David Ying, Robin Scott, Carol Ou and Judith Ingolfsson, among others.

William is a graduate of the New England Conservatory, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in violin performance under the tutelage of Ayano Ninomiya. His previous teachers include Aimée Kreston at the Colburn Community School and Dafna Low-Smith. He has participated in master classes led by Rachel Barton-Pine, Martin Beaver, Philip Setzer, Almita Vamos and Niv Ashkenazi, among others.

In his spare time, William enjoys cooking, hiking, composing and solving puzzles.

He currently performs on a 2015 S. Zygmuntowicz violin generously on loan from The Maestro Foundation.
